A swimming pool is a place built for swimming as a recreational activity or sport, typically taking the form of an excavated and lined pool.
How to map
Draw as an area along the outline of the swimming pool, or add a node at the center. Add leisure=swimming_pool.
The tag leisure=swimming_pool should only be used for the water area of the swimming pool. A facility containing one or more swimming pools (mainly focused on swimming as a sport) should be tagged:
- leisure=sports_centre + sport=swimming; or
- leisure=sports_hall + sport=swimming (single pool).
When micro-mapping, backyard and personal swimming pools should be tagged as access=private as to not confuse them with public swimming pools.
Tags to use in combination
- access=*: use access=private for private swimming pools and access=yes for swimming pools (or facilities) that are accessible for the public but may require paying an entrance fee
- fee=yes/no: to indicate whether or not an access fee is charged
- sport=swimming: swimming pools suitable for doing swimming as a sport
- length=*: length of the swimming pool in metres
- swimming_lanes=* this tag can indicate the number of available swimming lanes
- location=*: location of the swimming pool:
indoor
,outdoor
orroof
, or - depth=*, mindepth=*+maxdepth=*: depth or minimal/maximal depth of the swimming pool (if no unit is given, metre is assumed, see Map Features/Units)
- heating=*: use heating=yes on heated swimming pools or heating=no for no heating
- lifeguard=*: to indicate whether or not a lifeguard is present
- nudism=*: to indicate whether or not a nudism is allowed
- salt=*: to indicate if the pool is salt water or freshwater. tidal/rock/ocean pools would be salt=yes and aquatic centre pools in the suburbs would be salt=no.
- tidal=*: to distinguish tidal/ocean/rock pools built in the intertidal area of a coastline filled with sea water at high tide from suburban swimming pools filled via the water network.
- sport:scuba_diving=*: whether the pool is or can be used for scuba_diving
Rendering
The standard map style renders leisure=swimming_pool as a light blue area.
